Why aruci's leather aprons are so light

Hello

It's the end of October and there are a lot of cold days.
The other day, I went back and forth between the shop, warehouse, and office in Kiyosumi Shirakawa to pack up my belongings after an exhibition.
In this kind of weather, even doing a little work will warm your body just enough, which is just right.

I do a lot of desk work, so I usually wear the same clothes I wear to work, but when I'm working I wear gloves and an apron to change things up.

Depending on the job, many people are required to wear an apron while working,
Especially those who work in jobs that require them to be in front of others tend to choose items that are not only practical but also stylish.

It's nice to have something that looks sturdy and rugged, but have you ever felt like your work gear is a bit heavy?

Why is aruci's leather apron so light?

To begin with, leather has a heavy impression.
When you think of an all-leather apron, you imagine a thick, thick apron that protects you from things flying around while working.

Aruci's leather aprons are different.
Total weight is just 475 grams! Lightweight!
A typical all-leather apron weighs around 800 grams.

The reason for its lightness is that the leather is approximately 1.3 mm thick. The excess material on the base is removed in a process called leather skiving, which makes it lightweight.
This process involves passing an entire piece of leather through a machine to adjust the thickness, and it is a job that cannot be redone, so this process is also packed with the skill and experience of the craftsman.

I know it's lightweight because the leather is thin.
Now, let's talk about the pros and cons of leather. The common belief is that it is strong but heavy.

When using thin leather, strength becomes a concern. The secret to creating a scissor apron that is strong enough to withstand work despite being only about 1.3 mm thin was the processing method used to turn leather from hide.

Leather is tanned using a chemical called chrome, which essentially makes it soft. (More than 80% of leather sold in the market is chrome tanned.) Washable leather is dyed all the way through to the core of the leather, and oil is added in the same process as the dyeing process.

This allows the oil to penetrate deep into the leather, so the fibers absorb the oil and the leather stretches just enough.

This stretch makes the leather tear-resistant and durable.
The leather material used for the aprons is not just strong or thin, but is the result of the technology and development of Japanese leather manufacturers.

Aruci's leather apron is washable

We mentioned earlier that all-leather aprons are light, but aruci aprons are not just light!

It's lightweight and washable leather that can be washed with water.
Normally, moisture is a big no-no for leather, and care must be taken to prevent stains and the leather becoming stiff when it dries.
This apron is also intended to be used by hairdressers, so it cannot be vulnerable to water.

Another feature of this leather is that it is washable.
It's washable.

But you may be wondering, how can leather be washed? The secret lies in the way the leather is processed.

During the chrome tanning process, the leather is treated with a solvent that makes it difficult for water to penetrate, like waterproofing.
This makes it the perfect material for hairdressers' aprons, as it is resistant to color fading and shrinkage when dry after hand washing.

Design that takes into consideration the movements during work. Stitching based on the experience of skilled craftsmen.

Each professional contributed their knowledge to complete the project.

- The apron pattern is a hakama style that does not restrict movement (trademark registered)

How to care for aruci's leather washable apron

For regular maintenance, simply remove any dirt with a dry cloth and hang it on a hanger.
We recommend washing it with water when it is very dirty or when you want to say "Thank you for your hard work this year, buddy!" at the end of the year.

Fill a sink or a large tub with water and add an appropriate amount of neutral detergent.
Soak the apron and gently rub it from above. Once the dirt is removed, rinse with water and put it in the spin dryer. Fold and press to remove moisture.

To dry, hang it on a hanger, smooth out any wrinkles, and be sure to dry it in the shade, then let it rest in a well-ventilated place.
This completes the washing of your leather apron.

No special care products are necessary, but if you are concerned, you may want to apply a thin layer of moisturizing cream evenly over the area.
